A Community Story

Just before the Thanksgiving Holiday last year, a group of Poway High School teenagers were sorting donated cans with our Executive Director, Stan Miller, when a woman walked in and said, “I would like to have some food.”

She was asked what agency she represented and her immediate response was, “I’m not from an agency. I lost my job, and my family has been eating popcorn for a week.” Stan put together groceries for her and her family and referred her to two agencies that could help her with her job search.

The woman got into her car with tears running down her face and was very grateful. The group of volunteer teens had witnessed the entire event and when Stan returned from helping the woman the young teenagers said, “We’re coming back and bringing our friends next time.”
